Research Networking Programmes in the social sciences, which are being launched this year, is now available!

  • In an effort to further develop the European research area the new ESF Research Networking Programme, Globalising Europe Economic History Network (GLOBALEURONET), will address key gaps in previous globalisation studies by focusing on a more holistic, long-run view of the role played by Europe in the globalisation waves of the last 150 years. The project will aspire to take globalisation studies to the next level by creating a broad, coherent analytical framework for future studies. • The Public Goods, Public Projects, Externalities programme (PGPPE) brings together leading economists, environmentalists and public sector specialists in a collaborative programme to study two closely related problems. The first concerns the provision of public products and services, such as health services, education, research, transport infrastructures, parks, cultural and recreational facilities, which need to adapt to changing cultural conditions such as the ethnic composition of a region. The second challenge is posed by changes external to a region, such as labour mobility and competition from neighbouring countries with lower taxes. Ireland, for example, attracted business from other European countries through tax incentives, while enlargement has stimulated labour migration from Eastern to Western Europe. You can view the full story by clicking here   (URL: http://www.esf.org/); the Programme also has its own homepage: http://www.esf.org/pgppe.
