European Young Investigator Awards (EURYI) Fourth call for application
The European Heads of Research Councils (EUROHORCS), wishing to contribute to the building of the European Research Area, joined in collaboration with the European Science Foundation (ESF) in creating the European Young Investigator Awards (EURYI) in 2003. The aim of EURYI is to encourage and enable outstanding young researchers from all over the world to work in Europe to benefit the development of European science and to build up the next generation of leading European researchers. The scheme especially encourages foreign researchers to come to Europe and European researchers who have been working outside of Europe to return. EURYI Awards promote scientific excellence, with wide international recognition, by supporting these distinguished researchers to develop and pursue an independent research career, including the development of a research group where appropriate, aimed at opening up new lines of research including novel methodologies.
Guidelines for the translation of social science texts
We have recently been informed of a brochure produced by the American Council of Learned Societies in the framework of their Social Science Translation Project (SSTP), which was co-chaired by Michael Henry Heim and Andrzej W. Tymowski. It brought together a group of translators, editors, and social scientists to discuss problems arising from the translation of a variety of texts that employ social-scientific concepts. The brochure is intended primarily for social scientists (and historians, scholars of cultural studies, and others), as well as for non-governmental organizations and government agencies. In addition to the original English, translations are being prepared into Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
