This is to inform you that the ESF-JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Conference on 'Quantum Information and Quantum Physics', is now announced on the website:

The conference is co-chaired by Prof. Seigo Tarucha (Tokyo) and Prof. Martin Plenio (London). It will take place at the Shonan Village Center, Kanagawa, Japan, from 12-18 March 2005.

Online application is now open. The deadline for applications is
8 NOVEMBER 2004.

Grants covering subsistence and travel will be available from ESF for selected young scientists affiliated in 'ESF countries'.

This conference series was established to provide opportunities for talented, young researchers from Japan and Europe to expand their knowledge of selected frontier fields of research, through lectures and discussions with researchers who are both leaders and mentors in the subject field. These meetings also offer an ideal platform for network building among participants. The meeting themes are selected by JSPS and ESF through consultation. The meetings themselves are organized by the host country. About 40-50 young scientists are selected by the two sides and the conferences take place over 5-6 days, in locations alternating between Europe and Japan, in principle on an annual basis. In 2003, a six-year MOU with JSPS was signed.
